Papadahandi, May 29: The traditional Ghata Yatra (earthen pot procession) of Maa Budhi Thakurani has commenced in Papadahandi sub-division. On the very first day, the deity was taken around the village amid musical performances, traditional dances, and spectacular fireworks.
A large number of devotees from different areas gathered on both sides of the roads to witness and seek blessings of the goddess. This nine-day-long religious festival began with the worship of Maa Budhi Thakurani at the temple of her sister deity located in Majhiguda village.
While returning in the evening, villagers escorted the goddess back with the vibrant beats of the traditional Dhemsa dance and music. During the nine-day festival, Maa Budhi Thakurani will be taken to several villages, including Daleiguda, Majhiguda, Dokaraguda, Tandaguda, Sunadangari, and Papadahandi, where special rituals and worship ceremonies will be performed.
On the concluding day, the goddess will again be worshipped at the shrine of her sister deity in Majhiguda. Temporary markets and stalls will also be set up during the festival, while cultural entertainment programs such as Desia Nataka and melody performances will be organized at night for public enjoyment.
The festival is being jointly managed and supported by committee president Gupteswar Paik along with Basu Nayak, Trinath Majhi, Jatin Nayak, Alekh Behera, Prasad Nayak, and Tapu Sahu.
