Bhubaneswar, Aug 25 [UDN}:The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) has tightened the rules governing the issuance of new SIM cards. Under the new regulations coming into effect from August 24, customers will not be able to purchase SIM cards indiscriminately.
Before issuing a new SIM card, telecom operators will first verify how many mobile connections are already registered in the applicant’s name. If the subscriber has already reached the permissible limit, a new SIM connection will not be issued.
The move is aimed at strengthening telecom security, preventing the misuse of mobile connections, and curbing fraudulent or unauthorized SIM registrations.
