Crops from Kotpad Region Sent to Puri for Devotional ‘Bhog’ Ceremony

Kotpad  Today, organically grown crops from the Kotpad region of Koraput district were dispatched to the Shri Jagannath Temple in Puri for the preparation of the sacred Kot Bhog. These included Kalajira rice, Basabhog, black gram (biri), green gram (moong), and Molli rice – all cultivated through organic farming methods in Kotpad.

The ceremonial flag-off of the dispatch was conducted by Kotpad MLA Rupu Bhattarai, in the presence of other dignitaries such as Kotpad Block BDO Sandhya Rani Samarth, MP representative Rameshwar Jena, MLA representative Binayak Acharya, Gaurang Nayak, Suren Mahanti, B. Kash Pattnaik, Kishore Chandra Mishra, and Girish Padhi. The entire process was facilitated by the Kotpad-based Chitri Dora Farmers Producer Company with support from Pragati organization.

These sacred offerings were sent from Kotpad to Puri, specifically for the Kot Bhog preparation in the Adapa Mandap of the Shri Jagannath Temple. While the central government has already granted a GI tag to Kalajira rice, today’s consignment reflects the pride of the region – where farmers from a remote area like Kotpad have used organic manure to cultivate these high-quality crops.

Among the dispatched items were:

20 quintals of Kalajira rice

8 quintals of Basabhog

1 quintal of green gram (moong)

Molli rice

Kotpad’s farmers expressed great happiness and pride over this opportunity. They also reaffirmed their commitment to continue organic farming throughout the year, focusing on sustainable and eco-friendly agriculture.
