Commerce Day and Career Counselling Programme Held at Balimela Degree College in Malkangiri, Highlighting the Role of Language, Markets, and Knowledge in Global Trade

Malkangiri, Aug 5 [UDN}:: The Department of Commerce of Balimela Degree College of Science and Technology, Balimela, successfully organized an International Commerce Day celebration along with a Career Counselling Programme to create awareness among students about global trade, commerce education, and career opportunities.
The programme was coordinated by Mr. Sudarshan Bate, Lecturer in the Department of Commerce. The event began with an inaugural address by the college Principal, Mr. Subash Chandra Majhi, who highlighted the significance of commerce education and its vital role in shaping the bright future of students. He encouraged students to develop professional skills and prepare themselves for the evolving global economy.
The Head of the Department of Commerce, Mr. Sapan Kumar Kamp, delivered an engaging PowerPoint presentation on the theme “Connecting Markets and Empowering Global Growth.” He explained the importance of international trade, digital market systems, globalization, and the contribution of commerce to economic development. His presentation also emphasized how technology and modern business practices are transforming global markets.
Mr. Sunil Pujari, Lecturer in the Department of History, spoke about the evolution of market systems from traditional trading practices to modern commercial networks. He explained how markets have changed over time and their influence on society and economic growth.
Mr. Purushottam Samarath, Lecturer in the Department of Political Science, discussed the close relationship between markets, economics, and politics. He explained how political decisions and economic policies influence trade and business activities at both national and international levels.
Mr. Suraj Kumar Jena, Lecturer in the Department of English, stressed the importance of language proficiency, particularly English, in international commerce. He noted that effective communication skills are essential for succeeding in global trade and multinational business environments.
Mr. Manoranjan Khamari, Lecturer in the Department of Odia, highlighted the significance of the mother tongue and its role in communication, cultural identity, and business interactions. He emphasized that while global languages are important, one’s native language remains equally valuable in building strong communication and cultural connections.
Student Bhagaban Khul shared his views and personal experiences regarding the various career opportunities available after pursuing commerce education. He encouraged fellow students to explore different professional paths in business, finance, accounting, banking, entrepreneurship, and related fields.
The programme concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Mr. Sudarshan Bate, who expressed gratitude to all the speakers, faculty members, staff, and students for making the event successful.
A large number of teachers, staff members, and students participated in the programme and benefited from informative discussions on commerce education, the global market system, international trade, and diverse career prospects in the field of commerce.
