Malkangiri, May 21:  The 9th annual “Seva Juhar” celebration was held at Kichapali village under Korukonda block in Malkangiri district. From children to elderly villagers, people participated enthusiastically in the annual festival by presenting various cultural performances including traditional dances and dramas.

While annual functions are usually organized by institutions or organizations, this was a unique occasion where an entire village organized and celebrated its own annual festival.

The chief guest of the program was Mangu Khila, MLA of Chitrakonda. Other distinguished guests included senior Congress leader Gobinda Patra, Korukonda MLA representative Binayak

Patra, Balimela MLA representative Isaac Khosla, village elder Upendra Madkami, senior teacher Ramachandra Madkami, social workers Bhishma Pangi and Ishwar Pangi, among others.

The villagers welcomed MLA Mangu Khila with musical instruments and traditional tribal Dhemsa dance performances while escorting him into the village. The MLA himself joined the villagers and participated in the Dhemsa dance, which became a major attraction of the event.

Later, a public meeting was organized. MLA Mangu Khila highly appreciated this unique initiative by the villagers and promised to address the various problems faced by the village at the earliest.

The villagers also performed Koya dance, various tribal dances, and dramas as part of the cultural program. Hundreds of people from nearby areas gathered to witness the celebrations. The stage proceedings were conducted by Rahul Madkami.
