Nabarangpur: The demand for district-level recruitment in Nabarangpur has once again gained momentum. Three months ago, during the district-level folk festival ‘Mandei,’ Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi had promised to initiate the recruitment process. However, the Nabarangpur District Joint Action Committee and Abhivyakti Koraput District Youth Student Union alleged during a press conference on Monday that the promise remains unfulfilled.
Bhagaban Bairagi, the district coordinator of the Joint Action Committee, presided over the press conference, stating that the Chief Minister had assured that the youth of Nabarangpur would no longer have to travel to Cuttack or Bhubaneswar for jobs and that employment opportunities would be created within the district itself. However, despite three months passing, the recruitment process has not been implemented.
Muna Tripathi, the chief advisor of the committee, highlighted that from September 27 to December 9, 2024, protests were held demanding district-level recruitment in Nabarangpur, Koraput, and Malkangiri. Thousands of district residents witnessed the Chief Minister’s commitment on various public platforms, but the state government has yet to take any concrete steps to fulfill this promise.
During the December visit of the Chief Minister to Nabarangpur, Koraput, and Malkangiri, committee members submitted a memorandum and discussed their demands. The Chief Minister had assured that the government would implement the recruitment process. Respecting this promise, the movement was temporarily halted. However, since no action has been taken, frustration among educated youths is growing.
On December 27, 2024, the state government initiated a state-level teacher recruitment process, which has shattered the hopes of educated youths from undivided Koraput district. The Joint Action Committee and unemployed youth have now decided to intensify the movement.
Until the demand is met, the agitation will continue across the four districts of Nabarangpur, Koraput, Malkangiri, and Rayagada. In the coming days, this movement is expected to turn into a massive public agitation, according to Muna Tripathi.
Several committee members, including Rajesh Jani, Lalit Mohan Nayak, Debaraj Nag, Dayanidhi Suna, Shishir Kumar Parichha, Sudhir Patra, Chandan Gand, Ranju Pradhan, and Tripathi Bhatara, were present at the press conference.
