Nabarangpur, April 18: On the occasion of Odia Paksha, the program “Let’s Buy a Book Day” was organized on Thursday at the Women’s College in Nabarangpur.
While the campaign has been launched across all blocks of the district, especially in colleges, the main event was held at Nabarangpur Women’s College. The Additional District Magistrate (General), Tapan Khuntia, attended as the chief guest. Among the distinguished guests were District Information and Public Relations Officer Manoj Kumar Behera, District Culture Officer Ghasia Harijan, and Project Officer (Emergency) Himanshu Pattnaik.
Former announcer of All India Radio, Jeypore, Uday Shankar Jani attended as the keynote speaker, along with the college principal Maleswari Sahu. Lecturer Samyukta Panda coordinated the program.
The guests emphasized the importance of reading books in modern society and advised students to develop a strong reading habit. Various Odia books, cultural publications, journals like Utkal Prasanga, Odisha Review, magazines, stories, and poetry collections were displayed to attract students. At the end of the program, students purchased books of their choice, and valuable books were also distributed by the guests. Intellectuals expressed that such initiatives would enrich intellectual development and promote love for the Odia language.
“Let’s Buy a Book” Campaign at Dabugaon
Dabugaon (Pragyanranjan Parija):
The “Let’s Buy a Book” program was also आयोजित at Bhairab Higher Secondary School in Dabugaon block of Nabarangpur district on the occasion of Odia Paksha.
The event was held under the अध्यक्षता of school principal Ramesh Chandra Nahak. Social Security Officer Jatin Panigrahi attended as the chief guest, while BJP Yuva Morcha district president Shubhajit Panigrahi and lecturer Asmita Swain were present as guests. Lecturer Pratiksha Priyadarshini Swain conducted the program.
Speakers advised students not to become overly attached to mobile phones but instead develop a habit of reading books daily. They highlighted that while mobile phones may provide information, it does not stay in memory effectively. Reading books helps in better understanding, retention, and quick recall during exams.
On this occasion, students were gifted notebooks and books. The principal also recited his self-composed poem, adding to the cultural spirit of the event.
