Umarkot : Every year on February 11, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) observes ‘Samarpan Diwas’ on the death anniversary of Pandit Deendayal Upadhyaya. Born on September 25, 1916, in a village in Mathura district, Uttar Pradesh, he came from a very poor family and lost his parents at an early age. He was raised in his maternal uncle’s house and pursued his education there.
In 1937, he joined the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), and in 1952, he came into contact with Dr. Syama Prasad Mukherjee. He played a key role in establishing the Bharatiya Jana Sangh and later served as its president. Upadhyaya envisioned India as a self-reliant nation in agriculture, defense, and justice. He was a prominent advocate of “Ekatma Manav Darshan” (Integral Humanism) and believed in an alternative approach to governance and politics.
On February 11, 1968, he died under mysterious circumstances.
In this context, BJP leaders and workers in Umarkote, Nabarangpur district, gathered at the party office to pay tribute to him. His photograph was garlanded, and candles and incense sticks were lit in his memory.
The event was attended by District General Secretary Ashok Kumar Padhi, Assembly Coordinator Suresh Acharya, Women’s General Secretary Mandira Nayak, former Municipal Chairperson Gopinath Sahu, current Municipal Chairperson Santosh Sharma, along with other party members including Pradeep Mishra, Santosh Sarkar, Abhiram Das, Ramesh Das, Pramod Nayak, Shankar Bhai, and San Bhaina.
The tribute meeting was conducted by General Secretary Prabhat Kumar Nayak.
