Raipur: The BJP has achieved a big victory in the Chhattisgarh municipal elections. Voting for 10 municipal corporations, 49 municipal councils, and 114 Naxal-affected urban bodies was held on February 11. The results were announced today. According to the results, BJP has captured all 10 municipal corporations. The Congress could not win even a single municipal corporation. After BJP’s huge victory, party leaders and workers are celebrating.
Out of the 49 municipal councils, BJP won 35. Congress won 8 councils (Takhatpur, Mungeli, Katghera, Mahasamund, Bagbahara, Surajpur, Mandir Hasoud, and Abhanpur). AAP won one (Bodari) and independent candidates won 5 (Ahivara, Shakti, Pendru, Akaltara, and Simga). This marks AAP’s first victory in the state.
In the 114 Naxal-affected urban bodies, BJP won 81, Congress 22, Bahujan Samaj Party 1, and independent candidates secured 10 seats. There were 14 municipal corporations in the state, but voting did not take place in four of them (Risali, Birgaon, Bhilai, and Bhilai-Chaurauda). The Congress has mayors in these four corporations. In the 2020 elections, Congress had won all 14 municipal corporation seats.
