At 75, Apibabu Still Serves: A Life Devoted to Politics and Social Work

Dabugaan,: Though he has touched the age of 75, the ever-active veteran leader and social worker M. Appa Rao, fondly known as Apibabu, from Dabugaan, remains full of energy and dedication. Associated with politics and social service for over 57 years, Apibabu is a well-known figure in undivided Koraput district.

Apibabu entered politics at the young age of 18, inspired by the ideals of the late Shyamghan Majhi, an independent candidate from the Dabugaan constituency. Since then, he has earned a reputation as a skilled organizer, dedicated politician, and passionate social worker. Even at 75, he continues to serve the poor and underprivileged people of the region with the same zeal.

Over the years, he has been associated with Utkal Congress, Janata Dal, and currently serves as a senior leader of the Biju Janata Dal (BJD). His invaluable contributions were instrumental in the electoral victories of past MLAs such as the late Yadav Majhi, Ramesh Chandra Majhi, and the present Dabugaan MLA Manohar Randhari. For this reason, he is often referred to as the Bhishma Pitamaha of the Biju Janata Dal.

Apibabu has always been a voice for the poor and helpless, frequently stepping into government and private offices to help resolve public grievances. His political journey includes holding several key positions such as:

President of Yuva Janata Dal

President of Dabugaan Assembly Constituency Committee

Member of State Council

Zilla Parishad Member (Zone-2)

Director of Dabugaan LAMPS

Block Vice-Chairman

Naib Sarpanch

Representative of MLA and MP

Despite his advanced age, Apibabu has never distanced himself from active politics. However, he has kept his sons away from political involvement, choosing instead to carry on his public service personally.
