Dhenkanal, July 21 (UDN): A group of armed miscreants allegedly looted gold jewellery worth around ₹15 lakh and cash from the residence of a retired librarian after threatening an elderly couple at knifepoint in Odisha’s Dhenkanal district late Monday night.
The incident took place at Saanda village under Parjang police station limits. The victims were identified as retired librarian Suresh Pani and his wife Reena, a local school teacher.
According to preliminary reports, three armed persons allegedly entered the two-storey house by avoiding the CCTV surveillance installed at the front of the property. The accused reportedly cut through a wire fence, used a ladder to reach the balcony, and broke open a door to enter the house.
The miscreants allegedly threatened the couple with sharp weapons and forced them to hand over the keys to an almirah containing valuables. They also reportedly took away two mobile phones before locking the couple inside a room and fleeing with the stolen jewellery and cash.
During their escape, the accused allegedly discarded the stolen mobile phones at different locations. Police suspect that the robbers moved towards the Pandua area after committing the crime.
Following information about the incident, a team from Parjang Police Station reached the spot and started an investigation. Police are examining available evidence, including CCTV footage and other leads, to identify and apprehend those involved.
Further investigation into the robbery is underway.
