Administration Treks Through Hills to Reach Remote Sarukunda Village Under Dasmantpur GP in Baitariguda

Dasmantpur , May 09:  In a remarkable initiative, the administration has literally climbed hills to reach the remote village of Sarukunda under Dasmantpur Gram Panchayat in Baitariguda block, ensuring government schemes reach the people.
After 79 years of India’s independence, this village had remained completely deprived of basic government facilities. The 19 families residing here have been living in extremely difficult conditions, depending mainly on agriculture for their livelihood.
The village is situated on a hilltop and is surrounded on three sides by a river. During the rainy season, it becomes completely cut off from the outside world. Due to the absence of road connectivity, ambulances cannot enter the village, forcing villagers to carry patients on makeshift stretchers to reach medical facilities.
Shockingly, none of the villagers had ever accessed formal education, as there was no school facility in the area. Several media reports had earlier highlighted the poor condition of the village and its lack of basic infrastructure.
Following repeated attention, the district and block administration has now initiated development works in the area. The muddy village pathways are being converted into paved roads under improvement works. A survey has also been launched for construction of a bridge over the Sarukunda river.
All 19 families have been sanctioned houses under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana, and construction work has begun on all houses simultaneously on a war-footing basis.
For the education of children, a temporary school has also been set up in the village. The district and block administration has set June 15 as the deadline for completing the ongoing development works.
The initiative marks a significant step towards bringing long-awaited connectivity, housing, education, and basic facilities to one of the most inaccessible villages in the region.
