10 New Degree Colleges Open to Enhance Education in Remote Areas

Jeypore: With the new government’s focus on development, there are high hopes among the general public for progress in the state, especially regarding education. After the opening of 10 new degree colleges in the previously undivided Koraput district, education has begun in these newly established colleges. Students are now able to pursue education in their own district, in their own colleges, which they have long hoped for.

Koraput district, known for its tribal population, has been continuously advocating for educational development. Over time, various governments have been pressured to pay attention to the improvement of education in this region. After the completion of primary education, many students had to struggle to attend college. For years, the residents of this region had been demanding the establishment of degree colleges in their areas, and the previous BJD government had promised this.

The newly opened colleges are located in the areas of Jeypore, Malkangiri, Rayagada, and Nabarangpur. The colleges in these districts include those in the towns of Chitrakonda (Malkangiri), Narayanpatna (Koraput), Bandhugaon (Koraput), Kosagumuda (Nabarangpur), Tentulikhunti (Nabarangpur), Jharigaon (Nabarangpur), Raighar (Nabarangpur), Kashipur (Rayagada), Ramnaguda (Rayagada), and Chandrapur (Rayagada). These colleges offer undergraduate programs in subjects like History, Political Science, and Education.

In each of these colleges, 32 seats are available per subject. Currently, students are attending classes in temporary arrangements while waiting for the completion of permanent infrastructure. The construction of new buildings for these colleges is expected to begin once the land is identified, and funds will be allocated to ensure the buildings are constructed.

In 2023-24, the state government announced the opening of 10 new degree colleges in undivided Koraput district. The government also assured that necessary financial aid for building infrastructure would be provided. The local population is hopeful that the new government will ensure proper facilities and development of the newly opened colleges.

Dr. Gopal Halder, the Regional Education Director of Jeypur, mentioned that the government’s efforts to provide all facilities for these colleges are ongoing. Teachers have started their work, and students can now sit in classrooms and study effectively. There is no doubt that the foundation for educational improvement in this region will be strong in the coming years, and both the administration and the government are committed to the development of education in this area.
