Brahmapur, Oct. 6 (UDN) : Tension gripped the Khallikote Unitary University (KUU) campus here after the announcement of the student union election notification was followed by a clash between two groups, prompting police intervention and the detention of nine persons.

Police personnel were deployed on the university premises following the incident, while those detained were taken to Brahmapur Town Police Station for questioning.

According to a student, celebrations broke out on campus after the election notification was announced, with sweets being distributed among students. The student claimed that a group of people in civilian clothes later approached them and allegedly used abusive language.

The students reportedly moved away from the spot to avoid a confrontation. However, the student alleged that when they returned to the campus after lunch, the same group was waiting near the university gate carrying sticks.

The student claimed that the group attacked him as he entered the university premises, causing an injury to his left hand. Three other students were also allegedly assaulted during the incident.

Following the alleged attack, the students contacted the emergency response number 112 and later approached the Vice-Chancellor’s chamber, the student said.

Police subsequently reached the campus and took the students involved in the incident to Brahmapur Town Police Station. The complainant also claimed to have video footage of the incident and alleged that he had received threats from those involved.

Police have detained nine persons in connection with the clash and have begun an investigation to establish the circumstances leading to the confrontation.

The allegations made by the students have not been independently verified. University authorities and police are yet to issue a detailed statement on the incident.
