The decision was taken at the 410th meeting of the Eastern Regional Committee (ERC) of the NCTE, held in New Delhi on October 1, 2026.

The committee examined compliance reports submitted by the institutions along with lists of faculty members approved by their respective universities. The responses furnished by the institutions were also considered during the proceedings.

Following a detailed review of the documents and faculty-related records, the ERC resolved to withdraw the show-cause proceedings against all 15 institutions in Odisha.

Relief for Teacher Education Institutions

The NCTE decision is expected to bring considerable relief to the institutions concerned, as well as faculty members and students enrolled in their teacher education programmes.

The move also provides greater clarity for students pursuing courses such as B.Ed. and M.Ed., with the institutions no longer facing further proceedings in connection with the matters examined by the committee.

Officials said the development reflects the outcome of coordination between the Odisha Higher Education Department, the concerned teacher education institutions and their respective universities.

Compliance Reports Reviewed

The ERC’s decision followed scrutiny of the institutions’ submissions, including compliance reports and university-approved faculty lists.

After considering the available records and responses, the committee found sufficient grounds to withdraw the proceedings against the institutions.

With the show-cause proceedings withdrawn, the institutions will not be required to take any further action in relation to the specific matter before the NCTE, according to the committee’s decision.

The development is expected to provide a measure of reassurance to students, teaching staff and other stakeholders associated with the affected teacher education institutions in Odisha.
