Jeypore, May 28: In an inspiring story of perseverance and academic excellence, three siblings from a modest family in Jeypore have successfully cleared the Odisha Civil Services (OCS) examination in successive years, bringing pride to the undivided Koraput region.
The latest achievement comes from Swadhin Hikka, who secured the 146th rank in the recently announced OCS results. After missing the selection last year, he returned stronger through dedicated preparation and successfully cleared the examination this year.
His elder sister, Rameswari Hikka, cleared the OCS in 2023 and is currently serving as an Assistant Labour Officer in Kundura Block, while his younger brother, Santhosh Hikka, qualified in 2025 and is now posted as a Tourism Officer in Gajapati district. With Swadhin’s success, all three siblings from the same family now hold civil service positions.
The siblings, children of Uma Maheshwari Hikka, a Class-IV employee working as a peon in Jeypore block office, completed their education with English Honours and largely relied on self-study for civil services preparation. Swadhin, in particular, prepared extensively without formal coaching, balancing his studies with strong discipline and long hours of preparation.
The family’s journey has been marked by hardship after the passing of their father in 2012. Despite financial difficulties, their mother raised the children single-handedly, ensuring they remained focused on education and long-term goals.
Family members and local residents have hailed the achievement as a remarkable example of determination, resilience, and the power of education in transforming lives. The success story has also become an inspiration for aspirants preparing for competitive examinations across the region.
