Bhubaneswar, Sept. 28 (UDN): Popular Sambalpuri music album artist and Sankirtan singer Jasmin Majhi has died while undergoing treatment at a hospital in Burla, days after she allegedly consumed an acidic cleaning substance at her residence in Odisha’s Balangir district.
According to preliminary information, the incident occurred on the afternoon of September 25, when Jasmin reportedly consumed acid that had been kept at home for cleaning tiles.
Rushed to Hospital After Incident
Following the incident, family members took Jasmin to the Khaprakhol Community Health Centre for treatment.
As her condition reportedly deteriorated, she was shifted to Bhima Bhoi Medical College and Hospital in Balangir and later taken to Burla for further treatment.
Despite medical efforts, she died while undergoing treatment, according to reports.
Police Begin Investigation
Police have registered an unnatural death case in connection with the incident and initiated an investigation.
The circumstances surrounding the incident and the reason why Jasmin consumed the substance have not yet been established. Authorities are expected to examine the available evidence and statements as part of the probe.
Multi-Talented Sambalpuri Performer
Jasmin was known for her work in Sambalpuri music albums and had also performed as a lead actress in several productions.
Apart from acting, she was associated with Sankirtan singing, and her death has prompted an outpouring of grief among followers, fellow artists and well-wishers.

Some social media posts have linked the incident to reports that Jasmin’s boyfriend had allegedly died of a heart attack shortly before the incident.
However, the claim has not been independently verified, and there is no official confirmation that the reported death was connected to Jasmin’s decision to consume the substance.
