Jeypore, Sept 28 [UDN}:The long-standing problem of frequent power outages at the District Headquarters Hospital (DHH) in Jeypore has now been addressed with a dedicated power supply system. The development is expected to provide major relief to patients, doctors and healthcare workers, who had earlier faced difficult situations during power cuts, including instances where medical treatment had to be carried out in darkness or under mobile phone lights.
Under the “Dedicated Power Supply to DHH” project, around ₹7.18 crore has been spent to ensure uninterrupted electricity supply to the hospital’s newly constructed seven-storey building. As part of the project, a dedicated 33 kV three-phase power line has been laid over a distance of approximately 8 kilometres from the Jayanagar Grid to the hospital.
A new substation has also been established within the hospital premises, along with necessary civil works and installation of control panels. Following the successful completion of trial power supply, regular electricity service through the dedicated line has now commenced.
The system has also been designed with an alternative power arrangement to ensure greater reliability. In case electricity supply from the Jayanagar Grid is disrupted due to natural calamities or technical faults, the nearby Borigumma feeder has also been connected to the hospital’s substation as a backup source.
In addition, a DG set and inverter facilities have been made available to safeguard uninterrupted patient care, particularly in critical departments and wards. An auto-changeover system will also become fully operational after the installation of a dedicated changeover arrangement, allowing the power source to be switched automatically when required.
The project, for which the agreement was signed in April 2024, had been awaited for a long time. Its operationalisation is expected to significantly strengthen the power infrastructure of the district hospital and ensure that essential medical services are not disrupted because of power failures.
