Kendujhar, Sept. 23 (UDN): A man and a woman were killed after a speeding truck rammed their motorcycle from behind near Dhurpada in Kendujhar district, police said.
The fatal accident occurred within the limits of Kendujhar Town Police Station when the couple was travelling on the two-wheeler.
Woman Dragged In Impact
According to preliminary reports, the truck struck the motorcycle from behind with considerable force, causing both riders to fall beneath the heavy vehicle.
The woman was reportedly dragged for around 200 metres before the truck came to a halt. Both victims died at the spot.
The identities of the deceased have not yet been established. Police have confirmed that the victims were one man and one woman.
Police Recover Bodies
Following information about the accident, personnel from Kendujhar Town Police Station reached the spot and recovered the bodies.
The bodies were subsequently sent for post-mortem examination as part of the investigation.
Search On For Truck Driver
The truck driver reportedly fled the scene following the accident.
Police have launched an investigation and are making efforts to trace the vehicle and identify the driver. Further details regarding the identities of the deceased and the circumstances leading to the collision are awaited.
