Preparations in Full Swing for Hydro Power Project Installation in Jeypore

Jeypore : A 3-megawatt hydro power project is set to be established near the Yellow Bridge in Jeypore. For the construction of this hydro project, land acquisition has been initiated. Today, a team from three departments conducted a land survey near the Yellow Bridge. After submission of the report, further progress on the hydro project will take place.

The hydro project is proposed to be built on the eastern side of the Yellow Bridge, located over the Satiguda Dam in Jeypore. A private company has submitted a proposal to the government for the project. A survey was carried out to examine the suitability of the site, including any trees or obstacles that need to be cleared. Officials from the Revenue, Forest, and Energy departments conducted the survey and have returned after inspection.

Water from the Kolab reservoir is used for the multipurpose Kolab Project’s irrigation. After being used in the turbines for electricity generation at the hydro project, the water will flow back into the Satiguda Dam. From there, the water will be regulated through a head regulator and used for canal irrigation, ensuring no wastage of water, as stated by company officials.

For the project, water will be lifted through pipes and directed to the hydro power plant, where 3 megawatts of electricity will be generated. After power generation, the water will rejoin the Satiguda Dam and be conserved for agricultural use.

Currently, a 6.1-acre area near the Yellow Bridge—where tamarind and large chakunda trees are present—has been identified by the Forest Department. The Revenue Department has also marked around 9.2 acres of land needed for the power plant. Water will be drawn through pipes from a point before the head regulator of the Satiguda Dam, where canal water is currently released.

After land acquisition by IDCO (Industrial Infrastructure Development Corporation), construction of the Jaypur Hydro Power Project will begin. The company’s liaison officer, F. Kiruddin Khal, informed that this project will produce 3 megawatts of electricity.

Majhighariani Temple to Host Historic Nabakalebara Ritual in Rayagada

Rayagada: The presiding deity of Rayagada, Maa Majhighariani’s temple, is set to undergo Nabakalebara (a major transformation/renovation). The state government has announced a grant of Rs. 30 crore for this initiative. The construction responsibility has been entrusted to the Works Department. According to Executive Engineer Ambikeya Mishra, construction work will begin after the tender process is completed.

Currently, the temple is surrounded by shops, markets, and offices, making it difficult to view the temple properly. Therefore, an independent design has been prepared. The area surrounding the temple, including its boundary, will be made attractive, and a new road will be constructed for better access to the temple.

There will be 26 retail outlets for the sale of puja items and other daily-use items. The first floor will house a tonsuring center with the capacity to serve 50 devotees at a time. The second floor will have the temple trust committee’s office, and the top floor will have a community dining center capable of feeding 250 people.

There will be three main entrances to the temple from three directions, and the renovation of the old Pada Mandira (footprint shrine) has also been decided. The Railways had issued a notice for the demolition of the road and main entrance in front of the temple for the construction of the third railway line between Rayagada and Visakhapatnam. However, this plan has been stalled after the Revenue Department decided to hand over 6 acres of land to the Railways.

Once the cabinet decision is made, the land transfer process will be completed. The temple management committee stated that after the land transfer is finalized, there will be no obstacles to the temple’s development.

In the meantime, the temple management committee, led by chairman Raising Bidika, has expressed its gratitude to the state government for providing the Rs. 30 crore grant for the temple’s development.
