Umerkote: A young woman died after being bitten by a snake in a tragic and unexpected incident under Umerkote police station limits in Nabarangpur district. The deceased has been identified as Jamuna Panaka (20) from Tendakaguda village.
According to available information, Jamuna’s health condition deteriorated , prompting her family to rush her to the Umerkote Sub-Divisional Hospital for treatment. Despite receiving medical attention, she passed away around 7 PM during treatment. Doctors declared her dead and observed that foam was coming out of her mouth, which led them to suspect a venomous snake bite.
The doctors immediately informed the Umerkote Police Station and filed a written complaint regarding the incident. Acting on the complaint, the police reached the hospital, seized the body, and after conducting a post-mortem, handed the body over to the family.
According to the doctors, Jamuna had likely been bitten by a poisonous snake. However, no complaint or suspicion was raised by the family. The police have registered a case and are investigating the incident. The investigation is being led by Sub-Inspector (SI) Shivaji Panda.
