Nandapur: In Nandapur block of Koraput district, a hanging bridge constructed over the Kadua Ghat of Galgaja River connecting Birelput and Yogiput villages under Khurji Panchayat is currently in a perilous condition. The bridge, built with an investment of around ₹1 crore and inaugurated nearly 10 years ago, lacks safety railings on both sides.

The bridge was constructed by the organization “Brick and Roof,” but despite a decade passing since its construction, no protective barriers have been installed on either side. As a result, villagers from the two surrounding areas, including pedestrians, are forced to cross the bridge under dangerous circumstances.

With the rainy season approaching, locals have expressed concerns that without the construction of side railings, the bridge may soon collapse, leading to a complete waste of public funds. Additionally, there is no proper paved road connecting Birelput and Yogiput to the bridge, further inconveniencing residents of both villages.

The villagers have urged the district administration and the construction agency, Brick and Roof, to urgently inspect the bridge and take necessary action to ensure public safety.
