Baipariguda,22nd Aug 2025: World Tribal Day was celebrated by different tribal communities residing in Baipariguda Block. This afternoon, hundreds of people from various corners of the block participated in a grand procession that began from the local Paschimeshwar Temple, moving through the town with traditional tribal dance and songs.
On this occasion, the tribal communities submitted a 10-point memorandum addressed to the Chief Minister through the Block Development Officer.
The key demands included:
- Identifying and expelling non-tribals who have secured government jobs using fake Scheduled Tribe certificates.
- Ensuring district-level recruitment (instead of state-level) for Group C and Group D posts so that poor tribal youth of Koraput district can get employment opportunities.
- Immediate implementation of the PESA Act in Odisha for safeguarding tribal interests.
- Filling the shortage of doctors in various health centers of Koraput district to ensure proper healthcare.
- Provision of adequate teachers in proportion to the number of students in hostels meant for tribal students.
- Addressing the issue where a tribal woman marrying a person from General or Scheduled Caste category continues to enjoy ST status till death, thus availing double benefits in both categories.
- Preventing misuse of tribal land and government opportunities by outsiders who buy land from tribals.
- Making it mandatory to attach a recommendation certificate from the concerned tribal community president during the issuance of caste certificates.
- Construction of a Tribal Museum in Baipariguda in the name of martyr Laxman Naik.
- Launching a government bus service from Laxman Naik’s native village, Tentuliguma, to Baipariguda.
- Many leaders and local representatives of the tribal communities participated in this rally and memorandum submission.
