World Tiger Conservation Day Observed at Satiguda Eco Tourism Centre

Malkangiri, 9th Aug 2025:  The World Tiger Conservation Day 2025 was observed today by the Malkangiri Forest Division at the Satiguda Eco Tourism Centre.

“It’s important to understand that a tiger is not just a ferocious animal – it is a key protector of ecological balance in forests,” the event organizers emphasized.

Malkangiri district is geographically linked to vast forested regions stretching from Maharashtra to Similipal. If the local forests are preserved well, the district may one day witness the presence of tigers in its wilderness. Nearby, protected forests like Indravati and Sunabeda already exist. Malkangiri is also a part of the Dandakaranya forest range, which includes dense forests such as Kandakamera.

The presence of large animals like tigers in forests signifies a healthy ecosystem where other wildlife populations can also thrive.

Environmental expert and wildlife conservationist Ramakrushna Chaudhary administered a conservation pledge to the children. As part of this pledge, students were encouraged to adopt the idea of planting three trees:

One for their mother,

One for themselves on each birthday, and

One for the forest.

Another key message was that if one encounters a wild animal or reptile, they should not panic, but instead allow the creature to return to its natural habitat. If the situation seems risky, people were advised to inform the forest department for proper handling.
