Jeypore, Dec, 11:  Odisha Central University, Koraput, celebrated World Soil Day 2025 with great enthusiasm, highlighting the importance of soil conservation and sustainable agricultural practices. The event was organized under the guidance of the university’s Agriculture Department.

The program was presided over by the Acting Vice-Chancellor, Professor Narsingh Charan Panda, who emphasized the crucial role of soil in ensuring food security and encouraged students to adopt scientific methods for soil health management. Koraput Agriculture District Officer A. Hemant Kumar Padihari attended as the chief guest, highlighting various government initiatives aimed at promoting soil health and raising awareness among farming communities.

The event also saw the participation of Finance Officer Duryodhan Sethi and Registrar Dr. Rakesh Kumar Lenka, who appreciated the department’s efforts to engage the youth in agriculture. Dr. B. Manaranjan Behera, Junior Scientific Officer, participated as the key speaker, providing valuable insights on soil fertility, organic farming, and climate-resilient agriculture, emphasizing that “Soil is life — it must be preserved for future generations.” The program began with opening remarks from Dr. Manjushree Singh, Head of the Agriculture Department, who highlighted the relevance of World Soil Day and the university’s role in promoting environmental awareness. Dr. Anupam Dakua offered formal thanks.

During the event, Dr. Sanjay Pradhan (Head of Dairy Science Department), Dr. Fagunath Bhoy (Public Relations Officer), CUO Dr. Pradosh, Dr. Suman, and several faculty members participated actively. Over 150 students enthusiastically joined, reflecting their strong academic interest in environmental and agricultural issues.

As part of the celebrations, the university inaugurated a Crop Cafeteria, showcasing various crop varieties and serving as a live learning platform for students. A quiz competition on soil and soil health was also organized, with students actively participating and winners receiving awards for their knowledge and skills.

The program concluded with a mutual discussion session, where students interacted with experts on soil conservation techniques. Faculty, students, and honored guests actively participated throughout, making the event a successful educational and awareness initiative.
