Kotpad, 10th Nov 2025:  As one of the oldest systems of medicine in the world, Indian medical science—Ayurveda—has long been dedicated to the welfare of humanity. From the Vedic era to modern times, its popularity among people has remained undiminished. In today’s age, Ayurveda continues to advance through developments in drug formulation, herbal medicine, research, quality control, and especially through the modern transformation of Ayurvedic medicines.

According to ancient scriptures, Lord Vishnu himself appeared on earth in the divine form of Dhanvantari, the harbinger of health and well-being. Hence, Lord Dhanvantari is revered as the originator of Ayurveda.

References in sacred texts like the Mahabharata, Vishnu Purana, Bhagavata Purana, and Vayu Purana describe that during the churning of the cosmic ocean (Samudra Manthana)—a divine act carried out by gods and demons to obtain the nectar of immortality—Lord Dhanvantari emerged holding a white conch, a pot of nectar (amrita), the Ayurveda scriptures, and medicinal herbs.

The Ayurvedic science established by Lord Dhanvantari not only protects human health but also alleviates suffering, enabling humankind to lead a long, healthy, and disease-free life.
