Nabarangpur, 18th Nov 2025: The long-awaited Nabarangpur bypass road construction has officially begun. This development is expected to relieve residents from the years-long traffic congestion in the city. A total of ₹168.58 crore has been allocated for the construction of 9.12 km of road on National Highway-26 that passes through the city. According to SDO Chhatri A of the National Highway Department, the bypass is expected to be completed by January 2026.

Construction has already started near Rangamatiguda and Kesriguda, two of the five vehicle underpasses (overbridges) planned along the highway. Additionally, three underpasses will be constructed at Divtata, Kaiguda, and Kaiguda-Divtata, bringing the total to five overbridges. The road will pass over the national highway at these locations. The new bypass will be a four-lane road at the start and end, with a 12-meter-wide section of NH-26 reduced to 10 meters during construction. An 8 km stretch will consist of two lanes.

The bypass will connect Divtata village, Kesriguda, the SP’s office, and Patramunda village to National Highway-26. Out of the total ₹168.58 crore, ₹60 crore will be spent on 9 km of road construction, ₹3.5 crore for planting 9,000 trees, and ₹90 lakh for new electric poles and electrification. The construction company will maintain the road for five years after completion.

It is noteworthy that 5 km of NH-26 passes through Nabarangpur city, including the stretch from Jagannath Temple to Ram Mandir, which faces daily traffic congestion. The new bypass aims to alleviate this long-standing problem.
