17th July 2025, Nandapur: As part of an initiative by ORMAS (Odisha Rural Development and Marketing Society) in Koraput district, over 20 women from Kumbhara Sahi under Nandapur Sub-division were provided with electric pottery-making machines on Saturday.
This step aims to revive the traditional pottery skills of the potter community, which are gradually disappearing, and to promote self-reliance among the women by creating renewed interest in clay craft and pottery.
Under the Central Village Industries Development Scheme, the women received professional training and machinery support through a 90-day training camp.
Key officials present during the event included:
Amit Kumar Bhuyan, Additional Director, Village Industries Commissioner
Sameer Patra, Additional Director (ADH), Handicrafts Department
Abhimanyu Singh, HPO
Durga Prasad, BDO of Nandapur
These officials handed over the machines to the women.
According to the authorities, the women will now be able to use these machines to produce a variety of clay products such as pots, lamps, idols, and other clay items, helping them become economically self-sufficient.
