Nabarangpur, 18th Oct 2025: To prevent accidents and ease traffic congestion near the Mahila College Square in Nabarangpur, the municipal administration has initiated a plan. The boundary wall of the Chhatra Bat cremation ground located nearby will be dismantled and shifted backward to make space. New commercial stalls will be constructed at the site.
The rent collected from these stalls will be used for the maintenance of the cremation ground, as per the proposal put forward by MLA Gaurishankar Majhi, which was approved during a municipal council meeting, said Executive Officer Dr. Ashok Kumar Karna.
To address the growing traffic issues in Nabarangpur town, movement of heavy vehicles will be restricted between 9 AM and 9 PM in the city center. Heavy vehicles like trucks and buses traveling from Borigumma side to Umerkote, Raipur, or western Odisha will now be diverted through Mangalam Timbers Square, then to Hirli Square, passing in front of Mahila College Square, and finally exiting via Majhiguda.
These steps are being taken to resolve traffic congestion and prevent accidents near the college intersection, said EO Dr. Karna. The Chhatra Bat cremation area has already transformed into a commercial zone, making it a viable site for the new stalls.
Meanwhile, due to a shortage of police personnel, no traffic officers are currently deployed at Mahila College Square. However, Inspector Sambit Kumar Behera stated that new recruits will be deployed there in the future once they are appointed.
