When Will Justice Be Served? The Ongoing Struggle for Disability Rights

Dabugaon: Two months ago, the three-wheeler scooter of Dibyanga (disabled person) Barun Das (32), a resident of Chatiguda village under Dabugaon police station, was set on fire by miscreants. Despite filing a police complaint, the accused have not yet been arrested.

Barun Das, a resident of Chatiguda (DNK) village, lives with his mother, wife, son, and daughter. His mother and he survive on government assistance, while the family relies on rice provided under the Antyodaya Yojana for sustenance. Since the age of four, Barun has suffered from a leg disorder, making him physically disabled. Due to financial difficulties, he could not afford proper medical treatment, resulting in 60% permanent disability.

Facing mobility challenges, Barun recently purchased a three-wheeler TVS Jupiter scooter through finance. However, on December 5, around 10 PM, some miscreants set his scooter on fire while it was parked at his house.

Following the incident, Barun lodged a complaint at Dabugaon police station. A case (Case No. 217/24) was registered, and an investigation was initiated. However, even after all this time, he has not received justice, leaving him frustrated and hopeless.

The public is now demanding that justice be served to Barun as soon as possible.
