Thakurmunda, 29th Aug 2025: Continuous heavy rain due to a cyclonic circulation and low-pressure system has been lashing Thakurmunda block of Mayurbhanj district for more than a week, severely disrupting normal life.
On Saturday morning (23rd August), in Sudarshanpur village under Champajhar Gram Panchayat of Thakurmunda block, the wall of a house suddenly collapsed. At the time, Chuturam Ho (50) was sitting in his veranda when the wall came crashing down on him. He sustained serious injuries, with his left leg fractured and bruises on his waist and chest. He was rescued from under the debris and immediately admitted to Thakurmunda Community Health Centre. As his condition was critical, he was referred to SCB Medical College and Hospital, Cuttack.
His nephew, Paitkaray Ho (30), who was also in the veranda, received minor injuries but managed to come out on his own and helped rescue his uncle. A goat tied in the veranda was also injured, with a broken leg.
Since Chuturam Ho belongs to a very poor family, villagers have urged the government to provide him financial support for treatment.
