Gania, 23rd July 2025: Angered by repeated power cuts, the residents of Chamundia village under Gania block gheraoed the local electricity office on Wednesday night around 9 PM.
Villagers alleged that frequent and unexplained power outages had become a daily issue. When they reached the office, they found only one staff member present, who was reportedly unable to provide any explanation regarding the recurring outages.
The villagers expressed concern that power cuts were disrupting children’s studies, as well as banking services and panchayat office functioning.
They also raised safety concerns, stating that due to monsoon weather and the forest-covered region, households without electricity are at risk from venomous creatures entering homes in the dark.
Ironically, it was observed that despite the area-wide outage, the office premises had electric heaters running, which added to the villagers’ frustration.
After a noisy protest with loud sloganeering and confrontations, electricity supply was eventually restored later that night.
