Bhubaneswar, 5th Sept 2025:The Vice-Presidential election is set to be held on September 9. However, Naveen Patnaik has remained silent on the matter so far. It is still unclear whom the BJD (Biju Janata Dal) will support or oppose in this election.
As the countdown begins with only five days left, speculation is growing about whom the BJD will back. Yet, Naveen has not revealed his stand, and other party leaders are also maintaining complete silence on the subject. When asked, they all have just one response: “Whatever decision our party supremo Naveen Patnaik takes, that will be final.”
All eyes are now on what decision Naveen will take in the next 4–5 days. However, political observers believe it won’t be an easy choice for him this time. In the past, Naveen has supported the BJP on several occasions. But now, supporting the BJP may be politically problematic for the BJD.
Why? Because the BJP is the very party that has replaced Naveen’s government and taken over power in Odisha. On the other hand, there’s also growing speculation about Naveen’s personal rapport with Prime Minister Modi. For instance, when Naveen was unwell, PM Modi personally called to check on him.
So, considering all these factors, it’s being said that Naveen may take a well-thought-out decision in the end.
Previously, internal differences within the BJD were visible during the Waqf Bill discussion, where some MPs supported the bill, while others opposed it. Hence, in this Vice-Presidential election, whom the BJD MPs will support will be a key point of interest.
