Nabarangpur, 15th Oct 2025: A venomous black snake (kalati) was found inside the doctors’ quarters, causing panic among the residents. The incident occurred on Sunday night at the Chandahandi Community Health Center in Nabarangpur district, where nine doctors were residing.
Due to a shortage of quarters at the Chandahandi Community Health Center, nine doctors were sharing just two quarters. After finishing their duty and dinner, they saw the snake inside the quarters and, terrified, ran outside for safety.
With no snake catcher available at night, the doctors had no choice but to sleep on medical beds inside the hospital, said Medical Officer Monish Purohit.
This incident has highlighted the dire lack of proper accommodation for healthcare workers in the area.
