Utkal Gourab Madhubabu Championed Women’s Role in Law and Justice

Nabarangpur, Utkal Gourav Madhusudan Das was the pioneer in bringing women into the legal profession. This was highlighted by Odisha High Court Justice Shivashankar Mishra, who attended the Lawyer’s Day celebration as the chief guest at the district court premises.

In the event presided over by District Bar Association President Sirajuddin Ahmad, Justice Mishra remarked that Madhubabu was a visionary. He had introduced legal reforms to enable women’s participation in the legal profession. Due to his efforts, a bench of the High Court was established in Odisha, and law colleges were set up. Later, one of these institutions was named after him as Madhusudan Law College.

Madhusudan Das’s contributions were not limited to the field of law—his role in the formation of the Odisha state was also invaluable. Inspired by such a great figure, Justice Mishra called upon lawyers to dedicate themselves to ensuring justice for the common people.

During the program, the biography of Madhubabu was discussed. Association Secretary Tapan Singh read the editorial statement. The event began with guests offering floral tributes to the statue of Madhubabu situated on the court premises. Judges from various courts and lawyers attended the ceremony.

In the evening, a new building of the Lawyers’ Association near the Sub-Collector’s office was inaugurated by local MLA Gaurishankar Majhi.

Distinguished guests included District Sessions Judge Subrat Mohanty, State Bar Council member Ramesh Patra, Nikhil Odisha Bar Council Vice President Narasingha Tripathy, and keynote speaker and State Bar Council member Pitabas, among others.
