Unseasonal Rains Before Monsoon Damage Roads, National Highway in Poor Condition

Koraput: In Lakshmipur block of Koraput district, unseasonal rains have caused significant damage. Many households were inundated as rainwater entered homes due to poor drainage systems. With no proper outflow, water overflowed onto main roads, carrying floating garbage and debris along with it.

In particular, the residents of Panasput village are facing severe problems. A concrete road stretching from Ghodatikiri Colony, located about one kilometer from the village, has been completely washed away by rainwater. As a result, commuting has become extremely difficult. The concrete has eroded, exposing bare soil, and the entire stretch of the road has become uneven and damaged, hampering vehicular movement.

Around five years ago, a significant sum of money was spent by the Panchayat Samiti for the construction of the concrete road. But within a year, portions of the concrete began to crack and peel off. Despite this, no authority has paid attention to the road’s condition since then.

Due to the poor quality of construction, villagers have continued to suffer year after year, especially during the rains. The block administration remains indifferent and inactive, villagers have said to the media. With each rainy season, the concrete gradually erodes, turning the issue into a major problem today.

Locals believe that if the administration doesn’t take immediate action, the condition of the road could become much worse in the near future.
