Bhubaneswar, 14th Nov 2025: A memorial ceremony was organized in the Odisha Legislative Assembly premises on the occasion of Pandit Nilakantha Das’s death anniversary. During the event, Speaker Surama Padhy, along with members of the Pandit Nilakantha Memorial Committee, including Purna Chandra Mallik, Assembly Secretary Nilakantha Gadei, and others, offered floral tributes to the statue of Pandit Nilakantha Das as a mark of respect.
Speaking on the occasion, the guests said that Pandit Nilakantha, inspired by nationalist ideals from his student days, had actively participated in the Indian freedom movement. He relentlessly fought against several prevailing social evils and superstitions of his time.
Pandit Nilakantha played a vital role in the movement for the formation of a separate Odisha province. He also served as the Speaker of the Odisha Legislative Assembly and later adorned the position of President of the Odisha Sahitya Akademi.
He was a freedom fighter, reformer, teacher, scholar, politician, orator, and prolific writer — all in one.
During the event, members of the Shashwata Social and Cultural Organization presented patriotic songs, and Ms. Rosalin Sahu coordinated the proceedings of the program.
