Umerkote, 14th Nov 2025: The region is gripped by intense cold. People are avoiding stepping out of their homes. The town remains wrapped in a blanket of winter chill from morning till night, disrupting daily life.

Due to the severe cold, people are shivering. In Umerkote of Nabarangpur district, it has become difficult to go outdoors. After 6 p.m., the temperature drops sharply, and people hesitate to step out even to run small errands. The villages surrounded by forests and hills around Umerkote are experiencing even colder conditions, and the residents are suffering from the biting chill. The cold is being strongly felt across different parts of the district, with Umerkote recording a noticeable drop in temperature. The cold wave has now spread from the villages to the towns, covering every corner of the area.

Despite the harsh winter, many tourists are flocking to the region to enjoy the beauty of the hilly and forested landscape during this season. However, for the local tribal people, winter is also a busy time — they harvest crops like paddy, maize, ragi, and various vegetables. After the harvest, preparations begin for the next round of winter-season cultivation. This period is considered an ideal time to earn some extra income through agricultural work.

In the chilly mornings, families gather together in their fields to start the day’s labor. The lifestyle of the tribal communities in the Umerkote region is somewhat different from that of others. Even though the cold causes discomfort, people here seem to embrace and enjoy the season. In the villages, it is a common sight to see residents lighting wood fires in the mornings and evenings to stay warm and protect themselves from the biting cold.
