Umerkote,25th Aug 2025: The Partition Horrors Remembrance Day was observed at Ward No. 6, UV-7, Nuaguda, under Umerkote Nagar Mandal on Thursday evening at 7 p.m. The day is marked nationwide every year on August 14 to recall the unimaginable pain, suffering, and sacrifices of millions of people during the Partition of India in 1947.
The Partition uprooted crores of families, forced mass displacement, and triggered the largest communal riots of the century. Hindus living in Pakistan were forced to migrate to India, facing brutal killings, atrocities, and assaults during their journey. Many trains and caravans were attacked, and even people fleeing on foot were targeted. Survivors of that tragic event still recount the horrors with tears in their eyes.
In 2021, Prime Minister Narendra Modi declared August 14 as Partition Horrors Remembrance Day, with the objective of making future generations aware of this chapter in India’s history and learning lessons to safeguard the nation’s unity.
At the Umerkote event, Kumar Pandit Ram attended as the chief guest. Ramesh Chandra Sahu, BJP State Secretary, addressed the gathering as the main speaker, along with other leaders including Tapan Kumar Pal, Suresh Acharya, Minister’s representative Ashok R. Padhi, MP’s representative Nayak, Tapan Debnath, Nagar Chairman Santosh Sharma, Ward Councillor Sanjay Sarkar, Gram Sabha President Sapan Paddar, Sudeb Nandi, and Santosh Sarkar, who coordinated the program.
The meeting witnessed the participation of over 400 attendees from Nagar Mandal and nearby wards.
