Jeypore, 1st Sept 2025: Good news for the students of Vikram Dev University – the University Grants Commission (UGC) has officially granted recognition to the university. Its name has now been included in the UGC-approved list. UGC’s Joint Secretary has also sent an official letter to the university registrar regarding the same.
With this recognition, all certificates and degrees issued by the university will now be valid both nationally and internationally. The path has now become clear for starting PhD programs as well.
Previously, Prameya had exclusively reported about the university’s pending status regarding the 2(f) recognition and the 12(B) status from UGC – both crucial for full academic and funding legitimacy. Following that, necessary steps were taken by the government, which has been welcomed by the education community.
A UGC notification dated August 29 confirmed that the university has been established under the Odisha University Act of 1989, and relevant details had already been submitted via notification on April 17, 2025. The university has now been officially formed as per the UGC Act of 1956, and after receiving cabinet approval and gazette notification, it applied for 2(f) recognition.
The university’s name is now visible on the UGC website, and a directive has been issued to all concerned authorities. From now on, all degrees, certificates, and PhD programs offered by Vikram Dev University will be recognized in India and abroad. Students can pursue higher studies, research, and employment opportunities without facing issues related to accreditation.
Educational experts have stated that 2(f) recognition is essential, because without it, the university would not have been eligible for 12(B) status, which is necessary to receive financial assistance and development grants from UGC. Without UGC recognition, students would have struggled with higher studies, job prospects, and research acceptance.
Now that UGC recognition is in place, such problems will no longer arise. Students from across the country and abroad may now be interested in studying here. The university will soon be able to start PhD programs, and local students may also opt to pursue higher education here instead of moving elsewhere. This recognition is expected to accelerate the development of Vikram Dev University.
It is worth noting that back in March 20, Prameya had published a detailed analytical report titled:
“Vikram Dev University Hanging Without 2(f) Status – Foundation Legally Unclear, Awaiting Cabinet Approval”.
Following this report, the university authorities acted quickly. In the second week of April, the necessary forms were submitted, and cabinet approval was subsequently granted.
