Bhubaneswar,6th Aug 2025: To ease the issuance of Unique Disability Identity (UDID) cards, the Odisha Department of Social Security and Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities has proposed to the Health Department that UDID services be extended to 33 Sub-Divisional Hospitals (SDHs) across the state.
Currently, UDID cards—necessary for differently-abled individuals to access various government schemes—are issued only at district headquarters hospitals. This centralized process causes delays and hardship, especially for those from rural and remote areas who face difficulties traveling to district hospitals for medical board evaluations.
To address this, the state government seeks to decentralize the service and make UDID registration available at the SDH level. The proposal includes providing necessary permissions and infrastructure at these hospitals.
The UDID system is part of a central government initiative to create a national database of persons with disabilities and ensure streamlined access to government benefits.
