Two Tribal Boys from the Hills Selected to Represent India in National Judo Championship

Malkangiri, 19th Nov 2025:  Binod Chalana, a student from the Bonda tribal community of Badpada village, Bondaghati Mudulipada Panchayat, Khairput Block, Malkangiri district, and Mahesh Hantal, a student from the Soma Kund village of Gavindapali Panchayat, belonging to an indigenous family, are now bringing pride to the district and state. Both are 13 years old and study in 8th grade at Kumutiguda School.

Having faced various hardships and family challenges, Binod and Mahesh have made a strong resolution to achieve something extraordinary in life. Supporting their dreams are AOMA Gurukul and all members of the District Judo Association, who are playing an important role in their training and education. There, they have been developing their skills in academics, sports, and extracurricular activities, gaining recognition for their individual talent.

Recently, both Binod and Mahesh won gold medals in the State-level Sub-Junior Judo Championship, bringing glory to their district and school.

Now, they are set to participate in the National Sub-Junior Judo Championship 2025, which will be held from 16th to 20th of this month at Lal Bahadur Stadium, Hyderabad, Telangana, under the supervision of the Judo Federation of India.

Binod will compete in the 40 kg category, and Mahesh in the 30 kg category. Both are seen as a source of pride for the Malkangiri region, and everyone hopes that they will continue to bring honor to the district and state in the coming days.

The young athletes, accompanied by their coach, have departed for Hyderabad, with support provided by the Navakrishna Government. Hearing this joyful news, CDO Naresh Chandra Sabar, district officers, AOMA Gurukul, and Malkangiri District Judo Association officials, including Randhakor Dash and China Rao, extended their best wishes and hoped for their success.
