Two Injured in Beehive Attack During Temple Flag Hoisting; Rescue Carried Out Using FBH and Chair-Knot Technique

Jeypore,7th Oct 2025:  A serious mishap occurred at the Ma Jagatjanani Temple when a tent house worker was attacked by bees while hoisting a flag atop the temple spire. The victim, Dub, a local resident from Nuasahi, was critically injured during the incident.

While attempting to mount the flag approximately 100 feet high, he was attacked by a swarm of bees. The Fire Services Department quickly launched a rescue operation, using FBH (Full Body Harness) and Chair-Knot Technique, and successfully brought Dub down safely.

During the rescue, fireman Balaram Behera also sustained minor injuries due to the bee attack. The injured Dub was immediately shifted to the district hospital, where doctors have confirmed that his condition is now stable following treatment.

Tent house worker Dub had been installing lights and performing other tasks on the temple rooftop over the last few days. On the morning of the incident, he was climbing to hoist the ceremonial flag.

Unknowingly, he disturbed a beehive, leading to a sudden and intense bee attack. Despite his efforts to protect himself, he was unable to escape the assault. Another person who attempted to rescue him initially was also unsuccessful.

On receiving the alert, a team from the Fire Services, including AFO Suresh Barik, Chittaranjan Panjia, Balaram Behera, Dillip Nayak, Gupteswar Kahar, and Dillip Lakra, promptly arrived at the scene and launched the rescue operation.

They employed equipment such as Extension CD, FBH, Rescue Line, Fire Safety Matt, Scoot, and Chair-Knot Method to carry out the high-altitude rescue. After being brought down, it was observed that Dub had suffered multiple bee stings and had briefly lost consciousness.

He and fireman Balaram were immediately transported to the District Headquarters Hospital (DHH). After initial treatment, Balaram returned to duty, while Dub remains under medical supervision.

According to departmental sources, FBH (Full Body Harness) is a type of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) used to ensure safety during high-altitude work and to prevent falls during such rescue operations.
