Jeypore, 10th Nov 2025: Kund Majha, a tribal girl from Jamunda Panchayat, Telia, has achieved success at the 20th State-Level Martial Arts Championship held in Jharsuguda. She won one gold and one silver medal in the competition.
Previously, she has participated in national and state-level competitions, winning more than 15 gold medals. Currently, Kund works as an attendant at Kasturba Girls’ School hostel in Jayatigiri. Kund said that the state-level competition took place in Jharsuguda over three days, from the 24th to the 26th.
She, along with four other participants from Koraput district, represented the Hanuman Sports and Academy of Martial Arts, Koraput. Kund won the gold medal in the “Kata” category of martial arts and a silver medal in the mixed category.
Earlier, she had participated in national-level competitions held in Jammu & Kashmir, Goa, Visakhapatnam, Assam, Jaipur in Rajasthan, Delhi, and state-level competitions in Cuttack, Bhubaneswar, and other places. She has been honored twice with the ‘Parab’ award.
In 2016, while studying at Kasturba Girls’ School in Kundura block, she got to know about martial arts. She first received training from school staff member Yajneshwar Behera. That year, she had the opportunity to participate in the state-level martial arts competition held in Cuttack for the first time. In her first competition, she won a bronze medal in both Kata and fight events. This motivated her further.
By participating in national and state-level competitions, she has brought pride to Koraput. Currently, she is training students in self-defense at Pujariput Kasturba Girls’ School.
