Papadahandi: The tender had already been issued, and the old bridge at Papadahandi in Nabarangpur was dismantled to construct a new high-level bridge connecting Ummerkote as part of the state highway upgrade.
As the construction of the new bridge over the Turi River on the state highway was completed, and with the monsoon approaching, trial vehicular movement began on Monday.
Under the direction of departmental officer K. Srinibas Kandhapan, traffic was allowed over the bridge. Vehicles moved smoothly and normally during the trial run. Earlier, due to heavy rains, water used to flow over the temporary road, causing problems for traffic. But with the new bridge now functional, such issues are expected to be resolved.
The new bridge, constructed at a cost of ₹7.36 crore, is now operational and vehicles have started using it.
