Bhubaneswar,11th Aug 2025: To ensure that the benefits of schemes meant for transgender persons reach them effectively, transgender self-help groups (SHGs) will be formed. These SHGs will be created through community-based organisations (CBOs) or NGOs working for the transgender community. This decision was taken during the review meeting of the ‘Swikruti’ scheme for transgender welfare.
Various programmes to be undertaken under the ‘Swikruti’ scheme from the financial year 2025–26 to 2029–30 have been planned, and some modifications have been made to activities already being implemented. In districts where the transgender population is higher, shelter homes will be established. In districts where the scheme is implemented effectively, the respective PIOs or NGOs will be rewarded.
Similarly, the Finance Department will take steps to conduct a third-party evaluation of the scheme. The State Health Department has been instructed to provide information on the number of toilets required in district headquarters hospitals and sub-divisional hospitals.
