Nandapur, Jan, 23: A training camp was organised on Saturday at Burudiput village under Gurji Panchayat of Nandapur Block by the All India Spices Development Project, Pattangi, Koraput district.
Although ginger is extensively cultivated and produced in the district, farmers often make mistakes in seed preservation and treatment. In their quest for higher yields, many farmers use chemical fertilisers in ginger cultivation, which leads to soil degradation and deterioration in the quality of ginger. Keeping these issues in mind, the training camp was organised.
Dr. P. Parshuram Sial, In-charge Officer of the All India Spices Development Project and ADR, OUAT, Semiliguda, informed hundreds of male and female farmers about proper seed and soil conservation, seed treatment processes, and various methods to improve land productivity and the quality of ginger produced.
Farmers were also trained on preparing organic fertilisers, seed treatment methods, seed storage, and scientific cultivation practices.
The programme was attended by Archana Priyadarshini, AHO from the Nandapur Horticulture Department; Lenin Sabar, AAO representing the District Agriculture Office; and representatives of the voluntary organisation PRADAN.
