Tragic Incident: Young Farmer Dies of Electrocution in Field

Nandahandi, 11th Oct 2025:  A tragic incident occurred in Bania village under Nishinahandi Panchayat of Nandahandi Block in Nabarangpur district. A young farmer came into contact with a live electric wire and died on the spot. The deceased has been identified as Kamalu Nayak (35) of Bania village.

The entire village is in mourning following this unfortunate incident.

According to reports, Kamalu Nayak had gone to his farmland early in the morning. An 11 kV high-voltage electric wire, which apparently snapped and fell during the night for unknown reasons, was lying across the field. While Kamalu was walking through the field, he accidentally came into contact with the fallen wire and died instantly on the spot.

Upon receiving the information, the Nandahandi police reached the site, launched an investigation, and sent the body for post-mortem to the Nabarangpur District Headquarters Hospital. An unnatural death case (No. 33/98) has been registered in this connection. After the post-mortem, the body was handed over to the family, according to Dungarvejha outpost officer Guninidhi Nayak.

Kamalu is survived by two sons and a daughter. He used to earn a living through farming on a small piece of land and daily wage labor. His sudden death has left his wife devastated and overwhelmed with grief.

Villagers are demanding that the government immediately provide compensation to Kamalu’s family and take responsibility for the education of his children.
