Konark: A tragic late-night road accident occurred on Tuesday at Badhei Square on the Konark-Kakatpur road, where a bike met with a fatal crash. The accident was so severe that two riders died on the spot, while the third one succumbed to injuries on the way to the hospital.
As per reports, three friends from Charichhak Dandikira—Sagar Mallik, Jayaprakash Sahu, and Deepak Mallik—were traveling from Konark to Kakatpur. The accident took place near the Trinath Banyan tree at Badhei Square under the moonlit sky. The crash was so violent that a loud noise was heard, alerting nearby residents, who immediately contacted the Champahar Fire Department.
Firefighters rushed to the scene and rescued the three victims, transporting them to Gop hospital. However, doctors declared two of them dead upon arrival, while the third was referred to Bhubaneswar Medical College for advanced treatment. Unfortunately, he too passed away on the way to Bhubaneswar.
Among the deceased, Sagar Mallik and Deepak Mallik were brothers, while Jayaprakash Sahu was their friend. The Champahar Fire Department confirmed the incident.
Upon receiving the news, the Konark police seized the vehicle and took possession of the bodies for further investigation. Locals have expressed concern over frequent accidents in the area, blaming the lack of streetlights near the banyan tree as a major reason. They have urged the district administration and police authorities to take immediate action to improve road safety in the region.
