Lahunipada,10th Oct 2025: A tragic accident occurred near Kaleipasha under Lahunipada police limits on Wednesday evening. A passenger bus collided with a motorcycle, resulting in the death of a 14-month-old child and the bike rider, while two others, including a woman and a minor, were critically injured.

Hemanta Kumar Mahanta of Ghanighasa village (bike rider)
Soumyaranjan Luhar (14-month-old child)
According to reports, Hemanta, along with Madhustita Luhar, Soumyaranjan, and minor Pankaj Kumar Patra, was traveling on a motorcycle towards Dalmakuja. Around 7:30 PM, a passenger bus named Lingaraj (OD14E 0866) returning from Badbil to Rourkela with over 40 passengers, struck their bike near Basubahal, close to Barik Hotel.
Fatalities and Injuries:
Hemanta died on the spot.
Locals immediately rescued the other three and rushed them to Banei Hospital.
After receiving preliminary treatment, they were referred to Rourkela Government Hospital, where Soumyaranjan later succumbed to his injuries.
The woman and minor are reportedly in critical condition.
Further Details:
The bus, after the collision, lost control and rammed into a roadside tree, causing minor injuries to a few passengers on board. Eyewitnesses revealed that Hemanta was traveling alone initially but had offered a lift to the other three on the way.
Local police arrived at the scene shortly after the incident and have launched an investigation into the cause of the accident.
